FAQs

There are many different varieties of the cannabis plant. Hemp — also called industrial hemp — refers to the non-psychoactive (less than 1% THC) varieties of Cannabis sativa L. Both hemp and marijuana come from the same cannabis species, but are genetically distinct and are further distinguished by use, chemical makeup, and cultivation methods.

Yes, cultivation of Industrial Hemp for purposes such as making food, textiles, medicine, paper, etc is  legal in India. The Government of India encourages research and cultivation of cannabis with below 0.3% THC content.

Cotton and hemp differ significantly in fabric features and sustainability practices. Cotton fabrics are soft and breathable, while hemp fabrics are durable and have natural antibacterial properties. In terms of sustainability, hemp requires substantially less water and minimal to no synthetic inputs like fertilizers and pesticides compared to cotton. Overall, hemp emerges as the more eco-friendly choice due to its lower environmental impact throughout cultivation and production.

Hemp plants consist of distinct layers: the pith at the center, surrounded by woody core fibers known as hurds, and outer bast fibers. Pectin binds the primary bast fibers to the core. These fibers are valuable for textiles, cordage, and paper. Hemp fiber production involves retting to separate the stem from the core, followed by labor-intensive fiber separation. The resulting fine fibers undergo cleaning, carding, and spinning into yarn. Techniques like knitting, power loom, and handloom are employed to create various fabrics from these yarns.

Our fabrics have are 100% hemp certificated from SGS, a renowned testing and certification organization. The certification report (link)  details the fabric's composition and qualities, confirming its adherence to stringent standards for hemp textiles. Additionally, we prioritize sustainability in our dyeing methods by using only Azo-free dyes.

Powerloom fabrics are produced using mechanized looms, allowing for large-scale, uniform production at a lower cost. In contrast, handloom fabrics are crafted manually by skilled weavers, resulting in unique, high-quality pieces that reflect cultural heritage and are typically more expensive due to the labor-intensive process.
